About Teresa
Hello, and welcome to my website.
I grew up in the beautiful county of Yorkshire, in the North of England, surrounded by green valleys (called Dales), historic towns, and ruined Abbeys. After many relocations I now live in the USA,
in Washington state, surrounded by two mountain ranges, and within sight of the waters of Puget Sound. My husband and I love it here, we feel very settled, and it’s the only place our crazy Labradoodle has called home.
Over the years I’ve had a career as a university professor and psychotherapist. My early academic work focused on women's internal world and their evolving relationships. My research article
"Models of Women's Adult Development" describes many of the themes and concerns that appear in my later literary writing. During my years in London, I also developed a specialization in trauma and advised the Metropolitan Police on family and officer PTSD. I learned many things about people that I hope enrich my writing.
Ah yes, the writing. I always wanted to be a novelist, but fate and the times (1970s) were not on my side. I had to make a living. So, I wrote vignettes for my students to analyze and short stories for my own amusement, never intending to publish them. Instead, I published academic research, resenting every one of the dry, technical words that process required. After many years, and one-too-many relocations, I decided to leave that world and follow my heart. One day, I was staring at a framed photograph from a trip to Provence. It portrayed a dusty shop window surrounded by flowers, and I began
to imagine what was going on behind the torn lace curtains in that photo. The shop looked empty and neglected, what had caused that? My first novel, RETURNING TO LIFE, began to take shape.
That was several years ago. Now, with four completed novels, and another half-finished, I’m stepping into uncharted waters and exploring the world of publishing. I hope you will accompany me !
